Shalom ZOA Members, Friends and Supporters of Israel,
We hope that you and your loved ones are healthy.
ADVOCACY
New this week: New York State of Mind
There is a mixture of angst, fear and depression in New York City and well beyond as an avowed Islamist and Jew-hater has been elected mayor of America’s most important city, and also the city with the largest Jewish population outside of Israel. But as we see in Philadelphia, a city need not have an Islamist mayor nor even an overtly anti-Jewish mayor for anti-Jewish activists and activities to flourish and to even have the support of local government.
Regular readers of Greater Philadelphia ZOA’s emails are aware of the plethora of official and unofficial anti-Jewish events and activities and behaviors for at least the last two mayoral administrations. From curriculum and rogue teachers in public schools, to librarians hell bent on manufacturing young Jew-haters, to mayors endorsing “Palestinianism,” and community teams in a Department of Recreation soccer tournament named “Palestine” as if there was such a place today, and more – it is happening in a “City of Brotherly Love” — except when it comes to the Jewish People, it seems.
Yet it is not restricted to Philadelphia proper. All around the city, in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey suburbs, anti-Jewish activity has crept into school districts, and government-run libraries and elsewhere. Jew-hatred occurs due to both anti-Jewish activists and elected and appointed government officials who are receptive to the activists.
The question is: Are supporters of the Jewish People, Israel and Zionism equally active, and is the area of activity widespread, to promote pro-Israel/pro-Jewish/pro-Zionist activities, attitudes and policies?
Your advocacy mission is to be aware and to be involved. Get involved in PTAs if you have kids in school, and there are other ways to get involved in schools even if you are not a parent of a current student; join a “Friends of … ” your local library, or volunteer at the library; attend local “town hall” meetings featuring elected officials, appointed officials and candidates’ forums – ask questions, get involved, speak up; join civic associations or neighborhood groups and be an active member. These are some examples of how and where Zionists/supporters of Jewry and Israel can be on the frontline in order to hold the line. It does not mean that you have to be aggressive in showing your support – but rather it just means being present, being aware and having a voice to speak up or in some cases against efforts to delegitimize or harm the Jewish People, Jewish rights and Israel.
No matter where you live – in the suburbs or within the city – there are many and varied opportunities. You can accomplish far more on the inside than you almost ever can from the outside. Yes, you have many demands on your time and limited time availability. Isn’t it worth a little time to try to safeguard the present and the future?

You Cannot Defeat Your Enemies If You Don’t Know Your Enemies
Host an Event Featuring Our Presentation about
Identifying and Combatting Jew-hatred
Help put a stop to the rampant anti-Jewish activity and Jew-hatred that is enveloping nearly every facet of society. First you must know who our enemies are and what they are doing.
There is no other presentation like this one, that covers nearly a dozen various “fronts” in the war against the Jewish People.
For large audiences or small; in a public space or in a home — Greater Philadelphia ZOA’s presentation, “Jew-Hatred: It’s Many Sources and What You Can Do About It,” is a timely audio-visual presentation that concentrates on the groups, entities and individuals who are endangering Jewish people, Jewish institutions and Israel – right here in our region. You will hear some of them in their own words; you will see what they have written; you will see what they have been doing and are planning. Our presentation also offers remedies and action items.
Following the presentation, there is time for a lively question-and-answer period and discussion.
To schedule an in-person presentation for a congregation, a group or in a home or office for a “parlor” meeting, please call Executive Director Steve Feldman at 610-660-9466.
