With Ad, Letter, Greater Phila ZOA Calls on Mayor to Cancel
Anti-Jewish City Hall Event, Stop Jew-Hatred:
Shalom Greater Philadelphia ZOA Members, Supporters and Friends,
We hope that this post finds you healthy.
Greater Philadelphia ZOA is sending a letter to Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker calling on her to cancel an anti-Jewish event in the Mayor’s Reception Room in City Hall and to withdraw an announced proclamation marking “Palestine Day in Philadelphia” on Nov. 24. In addition, we called for her to halt the official anti-Jewish activities under her administration in the School District of Philadelphia, Free Library of Philadelphia and other agencies.
In addition to the letter we are sending to Parker directly, we are publishing excerpts of the letter in a full-page ad in this week’s Jewish Exponent newspaper (the letter and the ad are linked below along with an image of the ad and QR code for the ad). Separately, we will be issuing a statement to the media.
The newspaper ad is an unprecedented step for us, as the official city anti-Jewish/anti-Zionist/anti-Israel activities are truly creating a hostile environment for Jews and supporters of Israel of all faiths. We may place ads in other outlets and other mediums as well.
We call on each of you to circulate our letter and our ad widely – both throughout our region and beyond as anti-Jewish/anti-Israel/anti-Zionist activity has gone from being the work of local activists to the work of arms of local governments agencies. Rather than facilitating, promoting and engaging in anti-Jewish activities – particularly aimed at children – government officials must condemn it, oppose it and restrain it before more people are hurt and more institutions are attacked. We hope for Israel and Zionism throughout our region and elsewhere will be bolstered by our letter and ad, and emulate Greater Philadelphia ZOA’s actions. We must speak up. We cannot be silent.
Please consider supporting our chapter to enable us to engage in greater educational and advocacy initiatives.
