EBulletin for July 1, 2016
Our beloved Lewis B. Dashe – born Lewis B. Dashevsky – was laid to rest yesterday. Lew’s loss leaves a singular void especially for his family and friends. It also leaves a void within ZOA, the Zionist movement, the pro-Israel community and the Jewish Community, and America. During his lifetime – and particularly during the last 61 years of his life – there was no one more dedicated to those causes than Lew was. At age 96, as recently as a week before he passed away on Tuesday, Lew was asking about Israel and ZOA, and the United States. Lew’s dedication was not limited to feelings – it was primarily displayed in his deeds. Whether it was going to Israel, which he did more than 30 times; writing about Israel, which he did via articles and letters to publications countless times; attending myriad meetings, during which at the appropriate times asking probing questions; leading and taking part in rallies and demonstrations; meeting with lawmakers and other influential people regularly; or any of his other activities on behalf of America, the Jewish People or Israel – Lew was a man of action.
In Lew’s memory, we ask that you help fill these holes left by Lew’s absence by engaging in more advocacy and activism, and also to commit to greater involvement with ZOA. ZOA was the primary vehicle for Lew’s activism on behalf of Israel, the Jewish community and America and he was a leader of the organization at both the national and local levels. Also this week, our “Buy Israel” Project chairwoman Roberta Dzubow’s husband, Steven Dzubow, passed away. In his memory, please remember to buy goods from Israel. It supports Israel’s economy, it directly counters the BDS movement, and you and your family and friends can enjoy some tasty items.
